Maarse & Kroon 1600

In 1973, the firm Maarse & Kroon in Aalsmeer, added 12 new buses to their fleet. These were Leyland with body of Verheul. The buses were specially for the busy lines between Amstelveen and Amsterdam. But also for other lines.

When Maarse & Kroon and NBM in Zeist merged to one company Centraal Nederland, these buses became the Centraal Nederland(CN) logo.

In the eighties there were withdrawn and bus number 1605 became museum bus. Anno 2019 this bus still is museum bus.

And last but not least, as from 25 August 32019 EBS has the concession Haaglanden for a period of 11.5 years.

Haaglanden is the region south-west of The Hague with the cities Hoek van Holland, Naaldwijk and Maassluis. Also is included the city services of Delft and Zoetermeer.

At present Connexxion is operating in this area. Connexxion ‘took’ over from Veolia.  This was including the buses from Veolia. Connexxion never changed the Veolia livery into Connexxion livery. Only the company emblems were changed.

Altough it is known that minimal 116 new buses will come, the numbering is not yet known. The blog will be updated in due time. And of course no pictures yet.

Walking, walking, walking

During the last two days I made two walks. One of 10 and one of almost 14 kilometers.

I left house around 05.30am. And leaving so early on a weekend day, you do not see people but just animals in the low ground fog.

These sheeps were wondering why this guy was so early. even the sun was not out yet! The picture is taken along the railway Haarlem-Amsterdam before going under the A9 highway.

After half an hour the sun was high in the sky. A start of a briliant and warm day. I did my 14km walk in 3 hours and buying on the way home some fresh croissants.

Old Arriva buses in The Netherlands – part 1

Arriva started in The Netherlands with the concession in the North of Holland. Later this was expanded to other provinces/regions. But about the present situation another blog.

This blog handles about the Arriva buses disappeared from the street. IN 2007 I spotted three Volvo-Berkhof buses on the busstation in ‘s Hertogenbosch.

Arriva had like Connexxion also Mercedes integro buses. Here seen in Eindhoven en Tiel and Eindhoven

The Den Oudsten Alliance buses were also in services with Arriva.

And a stranger.

Today’s training

Today 2.5 hours and 14.16 kilometers through the dunes. Ascents and descents. Like this is also the learningcurve how to walk what to do and above all how to listen to my body.

I feel that I walk now long distance on the new walking shoes. I need to ‘break’ them good before I start. From today almost 6 weeks before I leave.

On 1st of June by train to Hendaye and than walking over the Saint James bridge to Irun for the first night.

Sunday the 2nd of June is goes on. The first 27.5 kilometer walk to San Sebastian. Between Irun and San Sebastian there are no albergues. This first day is one of the heavies ascents/descents of the total route. And according to the books I read till Bilbao it is quite heavy but than it is more flat(relatively) The cost will be followed till Ribadeo and than inland to Santiago de Compostela.

Resting days are planned in Bilbao, Santillana del Mar(beyond Santander) Gijon and Ribadeo. I hope to arrive on 10th of July in Santiago de Compostela. But if I need extra resting days of course it will be later. At least I do not hope that I need to give up for one reason or another. That is why he trainings are so bloody important.

Training, training, training

On June 1st I plan to leave for Irun in the North op Spain. From there starts my 820 kilometer Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.

I was already training for the long walk. But since today on my new walking boots. Completely different way of walking in comparison to what I walked on the other shoes.

I did 13.17 kilometer in almost 3 hours. Including resting/looking around. I learned that I really need to listen to my body as around 2 hours I felt a bit tired. So meaning that I needed to rest for at least 15 minutes.

I borrowed the camelback from my son for the necessary water along the walk. I had to remind myself to take once in a while a zip.

I also found out that I need to use the coming 6 weeks to train good. Also with walking in the close by dunes with its ascents and descents.

For my buspicture/story followers, I must disappoint them. No more actual busstories for te time being.

However this picture is found on internet. Here the Zandvoort – Amsterdam – Maastricht intercity leaving the old statio Amsterdam Sloterdijk on its way to the ‘far south

These trains were most of the time, not to say always, towed by a loc from the 1200- serie.

Utrecht also public transport

On Saturday 30 March 2019, there was also time spent on of course public transport. Not just in the city center or at the Central Station, but also in Tolsteeg, next to Rotsoord.

Utrecht city walk

On Saturday 30 March 2019 together with course members I enjoyed a city walk through the innercity of Utrecht. Guide was a ‘local’ from the tourist office. He brought us to places where you normally pass by. In this blog only an impression through pictures.
